Roy and Dola are incredibly knowledgeable, capable and FUN surf instructors. I would highly recommend them for all levels of surfing particularly intermediate short board. I felt so incredibly safe being challenged on bigger waves at breaks I wouldn’t go to on my own. When you go with Roy you ALWAYS him or one of his coaches by your side at all times. So once you catch a wave they will immediately follow to ensure you are safe on the inside and for the paddle back out. They are also a hoot and a half. They just exude joy and confidence and really reminds you what surfing is all about. They get you out of your head and relaxed in the ocean. I couldn’t recommend them enough and will be going back to them next time for sure!

I took my daughters for a lesson, everything was ok until I found out he was inviting them for drinks, additionally smoking in the car on the way to the beach and back was disrespectful, no to mention having to wait to start the lessons because he was tired.

My friend and I had an amazing four days surfing with Roy and his team. We surfed with different instructors—Roy,Ready, August, Pian, and Duma—but everyone was funny, positive, and a great teacher. They made us feel safe in the water and encouraged us to push our limits. Our evenings were wonderful, filled with singing and playing the guitar at Roy’s bar, the Double D Bar. If you want great surf lessons and instructors who also enjoy spending their free time with you—eating together and partying in the evenings—choose this surf school! To sum it up: amazing people, great vibes, and an unforgettable time in Kuta! Thank you, guys!

Roy is the best man and teacher the classes were very good they put a lot of effort so that you have a good time surfing and his bar next to the surf school is just the best place I’ve been in Kuta

my friends and i (3 girls) were coached by Roy and Nabilla in november 2023. i spent more time with Nabilla and felt that his instructions were pretty useful to help me improve and catch longer waves. would recommend him as a coach and i understand that he also coaches at kura kura surf camp! i spent considerably lesser time with roy for no reason other than that he made me feel soooo uncomfortable and harassed. he made so many innuendos and said that he was joking, but reality is jokes are meant to be funny…… it got to the point where my two gal pals actively blocked me from Roy so i could always return to Nabilla instead to catch waves. would not recommend Roy for girlies learning to surf!! Nabilla was great though i wouldn’t mind his coaching again

I had the BEST time surfing with Roy In Lombok. He took me to several breaks across the island for the best conditions that day and tailored the experience to my level. I felt super safe in the water with him and caught many waves each lesson. He’s even got a bar right next door to the surf school you can hang at for happy hour after the lesson! 😊

The surfing lesson as is was helpful, Roy gave good tips and feedback and helped us improve. But sadly the behavior and communication around the lesson was unprofessional, inappropriate and felt uncomfortable. Firstly when we arrived at the Selong Belanak Beach, Roy made us wait there before starting the lesson, without telling us how long until we start and without giving us a good reason (ended up sitting around for one hour even though it was already low tide when we arrived). Then after the lesson on our way back to the shop, he asked us if we can make a quick stop to visit and give money to a sick friend of his. We agreed, thinking it would take a couple minutes, but ended up sitting around for half an hour in a small village where Roy didn’t really introduce us to anyone or explain who the people were. On top of that, Roy showed inappropriate behavior there like asking me on a date, mentioning his sex life and being touchy. For us it crossed the line of being jokes and felt uncomfortable and unsuitable coming from someone, who’s supposed to be our surf instructor.
